Makeup Brush Review

How beautiful are these cruelty-free unicorn brushes from Unicorn Cosmetics? 

These are the 2nd Edition (now mint green) of their original set. I love them! 😍 Well worth every penny, each brush is perfect for its job and a joy to use. (Pictures are taken pre-use!).

Each set comes with a card explaining each brush which makes them accessible for all as it explains the use, and effectively reason, for each brush in the large collection!

Do the unicorn brushes last?

My set was purchased as a present from a friend who had had the original set (purchased by me) for 2 years previously and still loved(s) them so I have two examples to know how well they work and last!

What sort of hair do these brushes use?

These brushes are made with synthetic brush hairs.

I prefer the use of synthetic brush hairs. I think they are better for makeup application and as well as cleaning in between uses. They are just more hard wearing and pleasant to use.

This also means they are vegan and cruelty free.

Are these unicorn brushes suitable for pro use?

As qualified makeup artists we have both used a range of brushes, and products with them, and I feel that these really stand up to (or in some cases beat) pro quality brushes.

Unicorn Cosmetics also do a ‘Pro’ range which I haven’t tried yet. They have a different ferrule designed to withstand more use and washing.

I believe they can purchased from their website or in select Superdrug stores. These are very light brushes, which is both pro and con in my book, so it would be interesting to see how the pro brushes quite literally weigh up.

There are many imitation unicorn brushes out there. But unlike cheaper brushes, which are generally naff brush heads on pretty handles, Unicorn Cosmetic’s brushes are well made, thought about and suited to the job.

What are the brushes like in use?

I gave these brushes a full run for their money on Studio London’s face palette.

I found that the concealer and foundation brushes were perfect for applying the cream formula.

Personally I found the contour brush too small for my own needs as it is slow to blend with and can lead to a product build up. But it would be great for doing someone else’s makeup as it’s precise. The biggest powder brush suits my makeup style and face better.

With the Unicorn Cosmetic’s brushes I really like them for applying makeup, love the synthetic fibres and they are easy to clean.

One negative about them is that they really light to hold which sounds odd but I think I’m just used to heavier brushes. Yet this makes them great for professional use as it will lessen arm ache! It also might make them more accessible to some people.

What about their other designs?

As of yet I haven’t tried any of their other brushes like their soft handled mermaid ones but when I do I’ll be sure to share!
