Mini makeup reviews to help you pick the best products

Foundation, Powder and Concealer products are the main base products of a makeup routine. That is why it is important to pick the best products for your skin.

Foundation, Powder and Concealer Products

Foundation

Foundation products have so many options including a range of formulas (ie cream, liquid etc) and coverage (full, medium, light etc). There are also specific options for dry skin vs oily skin. Below are my mini reviews for dry skin type mainly but also based on using some of the products professionally.

Revolution Pro Full Coverage Camouflage Foundation 4/5

This foundation is great for dry skin, it covers well with very little product and doesn’t cling to any dry skin at all.

MUA skin define matte perfect 4/5

Light/medium coverage which lasts all day, and the bottle lasts forever too. However I wouldn’t say it was particularly mattifying

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation 4/5

These foundations are a mid to light coverage, leaving skin looking healthy and plump not heavy.

MUA Skin Define Foundation 4/5

One of my favourite mid/light coverage foundations which is perfect for everyday looks. Don’t expect full coverage.

17 Cosmetics Second Skin Foundation 3/5

I struggled to get an even coverage and good skin match with this foundation. I think it would suit non-dry/oily skin more.

White to colour Foundation 3/5

This viral product actually has good covergage and colour if potentially slightly pale. However it is oddly fragrenced, it reminds me of honeysuckle? As well as being on the slightly sticky side.

Revolution Conceal and Define Foundation 3/5

A medium/full coverage foundation which applies well and lasts. It can give an ashy look and make skin look tired after a few hours of wear. You can also feel the product on your skin so use sparingly.

Unfortunatly this foundation is awful for dry skin and clings terribly to dry patches! I love the concealers but the foundation just isn’t the same. It’s sticky and not suited to my skin type!

Avoid these following foundation products

Oriflame Oxygen Boost Foundation 0/5

An awful product with a terribly orange tone, uncomfortable tingly sensation and no coverage. In fact there are orange tones to most colours of this product and the “oxygen” can cause redness and irration. No coverage, the orangey ness just disappears into your skin-blurgh. Do not recommend!

W7 Photoshoot Foundation 0/5

No coverage and feels awful on skin

Concealer

Makeup Obsession Mega Conceal 4/5

I haven’t used this concealer as a concealer but instead as a contour and it blends beautifully. This is a Revolution Brand so a cruelty-free/vegan product. I would definitely try this product as a concealer.

Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer 4/5

Unlike the foundations, I love this range of concealers. Great coverage and easy to blend. Sit well on the skin and with other products. It can be a little a heavy and greasy for under eyes.

Barry M All Night Long Concealer 4/5

This is another favourite concealer, less coverage then the Revolution concealer but lighter in texture too so perfect for under eyes.

Revolution The Matte Effect Cover and Conceal 3/5

This Revolution concealer is quite thick and sticky but does blend and generally cover.

Helen E Cream and Conceal Duo 2/5

When I first used this I was impressed. I loved that there were two colours you could mix as needed but there are much better products at better price points and I just wasn’t enamoured with the coverage or the feel of the product in the end.

19 Concealer Palette 4/5

The benefit of a concealer palette is that it gives you the option to blend and colour match as well as already having a variety of ready-made colours. I personally prefer liquid concealers to creams for staying power but liquid concealers need to be perfectly matched to compare to the ability of a palette like this.

Ultra Base Colour Corrector, Makeup Revolution 4/5

This palette of creamy products contains 8 shades to help blend and colour correct, which it does well. The creamy texture doesn’t play well with all foundations however.

Contour

Pro Amplified Shade and Contour Palette 3/5

A contour palette varies from other products in that it is designed to literally provide a range of contour colours. My problem with this palette is that multiple shades contain shimmer including a dark brown contour. Contour shouldn’t have a shimmer. You can’t highlight an area you are trying to shade. It just makes it seem like this product was not well thought about and its a shame. Some colours are great, some not so much.

Powder

No7 Perfect Light Powder 4/5

This is a great compact which is sturdy and survives life in a handbag well! The powder is soft and creamy but stays in its solid compact well. The powder mattifies and sits on makeup nicely!

Revolution Pro Glam Mood 4/5

This is a lovely creamy powder which I own in banana light. I don’t think the packaging would survive well in a bag or on the move. But the powder applies well and blends into the skin. It’s also great at tackling sticky products

Where to purchase Foundation, Powder and Concealer products?

For me, being cruelty-free and vegan is important, especially when it comes to makeup. I also need to make conscious decisions about what I actually need rather than just want.

Here are some top locations I would recommend looking when after new makeup goodies
