Skincare tips, the best products for Milia
Skincare for dry skin
Milia, or those small little white bumps are annoying at best, painful at worst.
Skincare is an important step for makeup, and in life. Skin is the largest organ in the body and it’s important we treat it as such.
If you had problems with your heart, lungs or another organ you would do something about it. So don’t ignore skin problems or the hints your skin may be giving you.
I personally have dry skin, which I’ve had my whole life along with skin sensitivities and allergies. Dry skin is prone to creating and trapping Milia.
I have recently been trying these three products which contain compounds said to add in the removal and prevention of Milia
What are Milia?
Milia are small cysts, common in those with dry skin, made up of small hard pieces of Keratin.
Generally, these will come and go on their own. However sometimes they can be itchy and irritating as well unpleasant to look at.
if you suffer from Milia it is best to avoid heavy moisturisers and exfoliate several days a week (but don’t over exfoliate!). Never attempt to remove them yourself no matter how tempting it may be!
Best products to use to tackle Milia
Exfoliants
Chemical exfoliants such as AHAs are generally better for dry skin then harsh scrub exfoliants.
Moisturiser
Also lighter moisturisers that penetrate into the layers of your skin rather than sit on top like heavy creams are better for dry skin-such as current wonder product retinol.
Product testing on Milia
To this end I recently purchased these three products.
Naturally Radiant (Superdrug) Glycolic (AHA) toner
Naturally Radiant Glycolic Overnight Peel
Revolution Skincare Skin Tone Correcting solution-2% Retinol
All these products are vegan and I purchased them from Superdrug online.
Both the peel and the serum are to be used at nights, so I use them on alternative nights. Whereas the toner I apply topically to the areas of Milia.
Do they work?
The most effective product for me is the toner. If I have a sore area of skin I apply the toner and in a couple of days the Milia are gone. This is still a long time for a positive effect however it is still helpful compared to not using it.
The peel I only use if I feel my skin looks really blotchy or bad. I’m not overly convinced on how well, if at all, this product works.
The Retinoid serum I use most nights and love. It is quite oily, it smells like rapeseed oil, so you only need a small amount. My skin feels great after using it but I’m not sure there has been much actual change to skin tone, moisture levels or re-occurrence of Milia.
Would I buy them again?
I would buy similar products again, either from the same ranges or a different range. I don’t dislike any of the products, I just wonder if any other products would work better.
The Revolution Retinol seems to be no longer available.
