Top tips for Halloween Nail Art

Sharing is caring!

It’s the season for spooky nails!

Halloween nail art can be fun and easy to do. Just check out my top tips!

Perhaps you’ve checked out my previous post on Halloween nail art ideas and are now wondering how to create your own?

Well look no further as I compile some of my top tips on how to create Halloween designs with these step by steps.

How to create simple Halloween Nail Art designs

Let’s start easy!

Decals, stickers, transfers and polymer clay slices can be your best friend to create some 3D nail art simply.

Start with a base colour or simple stamping and then apply as many or as little as you want to make your design pop. A touch of nail glue will hold items in place.

Ghost Mickey and Minnie

Lets take the white ghost nails as an example

  1. First I picked a pearly white base colour. Something with a bit of shimmer gives a nice finish in my opinion over a simple plain white.
  2. Next I stamped on the Mickey and Minnie Ghosts using a Mundo De Unas plate and simple black nail polish.
  3. Finally I collected ghost nail art decals and stuck these on one by one. A dot of glue on the nail and press. I layered them so they are slightly 3D in the end.

Painted Halloween Nail Art

Mixing dotting tools and brushes

Dotting tools and brushes can be used to create a range of shapes from small to large.

Most imagery your are trying to create can be broken down into shapes. Shapes are then layered and this creates the end look.

For example, take the grey witch nail on the ring finger below

  1. First paint the nail grey
  2. Then brush on a rectangle of polish on the top half of the nail
  3. Under this use a thin brush to create a row of triangles
  4. Paint a square on top of the rectangle of polish
  5. Now brush a thinner rectangle across to form the band of the hat. Stop to create a buckle.
  6. Then use a large dotting tool to create black eyes on the grey
  7. And a small dotting tool to create a highlight of white

Using these techniques you can create the other horror characters across the nails.

How to paint cobwebs

Cobwebs are a classic Halloween staple and can add a touch of spook to your nails.

  1. Prep your nails (ie file and shape).
  2. Paint your base coat-try green or white for a spooky look
  3. Let dry
  4. Next take a brush and paint the straight lines of the cobwebs. My lines are a bit shaky but I think it works fine for this effect. I also designed my look so the cobwebs would be in different places
  5. Let dry
  6. Paint black semi circles between all the lines to finish the webs
  7. Seal it all with a top coat!
