How to paint your nails to create a beautiful manicured look.
Painting your nails can be a fun and unique way to show your personality and add a splash of colour to your look.
How to paint your nails-prep
The first step to painting your nails is to have healthy nails. A nail care routine is important for both nail health and nail growth.
Next, immediately before painting your nails, you need to prep them.
Remove any previously applied nail polish (details below)
Wash your hands well and clean your nails. Use a scrub to tackle dry skin.
Dry hands carefully and apply moisturiser.
Next use a nail file to shape the nails.
Use a cuticle pusher to push back dead skin off the nail base. Do not pick at your nails.
If you have any hangnails or pulls on your skin cut these carefully.
Use a cuticle oil over the naked nails and onto your fingers too. Let this sit for a minute or two.
Then wipe any oil off your nail beds using a remover.
How to apply nail polish
To apply nail polish first start with prepped clean fingers.
Apply the chosen base coat
Leave to dry
Then take the brush from the bottle and wipe most of the polish off inside the neck of the bottle.
Start with the middle of the nail and paint from cuticle to tip.
Then complete the sides.
Paint in thin layers
Most (solid-coloured) polish should be opaque in about 3 layers.
Thin layers are better than thick layers for the polish to be able to dry and not smudge. How much polish you need per swipe etc does vary depending on various factors, unfortunately!
When dry apply a top coat.
Wait for this to dry before moving on to another task!

How to remove nail polish
To remove polish you will need cotton pads and remover. Simply soak the cotton pads, press on to the nail for a minute or so and swipe off.
You might want to go over nails again with a clean pad for any missed bits.
Remember to hydrate your nails with cuticle oil after!
