Ariel, The Little Mermaid, meets the 1950’s
Character makeup looks
Ariel meets the 1950’s in this weeks look.
This look was inspired by an Instagram challenge called #colormehalloween. One of the themes was Disney Decades. Therefore I created a look for Ariel, from the Little Mermaid, with a 1950’s twist.
The Look
The look started with this skirt from the vintage style brand Lindy Bop featuring mermaids in a ‘pin up’ style. I then paired this with a purple bow top to compliment Ariel’s outfit in the Disney film (green tail, purple shell bra!). I added a cute 50’s feel cardigan along with fishnet tights (do you get it?!) and DIY glittery low heels.
As well as creating the heels I also created a tote bag for the outfit. Featuring a similar design with a 1950s Ariel and stylised sparkles and bubbles.
Ariel Hair and Makeup
I pinned my hair into pin curls which are a classic 50’s style. But I made the look messy afterall I’m a fish on dry land!
For the makeup I paired a classic red lip with dramatic winged eyeliner and a gently contoured face with a small splash of blush colour. Many of the ‘classic’ makeup looks we think of today found their origins in the 1950s
The Nails for Ariel
For the nails I used nude falsies from Primark and painted on a reverse french manicure in classic 50’s red. I then added an Mermaid twist using a dotting stick, grey polish and smaller dabs of pearlescent white for bubbles!
On the thumb nail I took a smaller dotting tool and four different tones of greens/blue. I dotted these in stripes to represent scales.
What Disney character would you take to a different decade?
