Fluid Nail Art-How not to do it?!
I had a go at fluid nail art and its fair to say it didn’t work how I wanted it to!
What is fluid nail art?
What fluid nail art should be is the reaction of nail polish with silicone to create ‘cells’ in the polish.
Taking 2-3 colours and a silicone creating product and you should be able to create beautiful nail decals like these from xoxo, Jen. I mean, how cute are they?!
How to do fluid nail art?
I couldn’t find too much sensible/helpful information online as I don’t own a ‘Spot it’ top coat (or it seems, any beauty products with silicone in-which is good for normality and bad for this!).
Basically what should happen is that the silicone causes a chemical reaction with the nail polish to create interesting patterns and ‘cells’.
My attempt
I tried the steps I found online with a different hair frizz serum. That is what people seem to use when they don’t have fluid polish but it didn’t do anything! It seems that silicone is not often found in British beauty products anymore.
What I did was pick a few polishes to use including one to mix with the frizz serum. Luckily I used a very small bottle for this!
I applied my nail polish to cling film but generally silicone nail mats or plastic mats are used. I used three colours and also the mixed polish.
I then just dabbed on bits of nail polishes. Then either folded the mat or use a gift card to drag the paint.
After trying both I preferred the effect of folding.
I then applied a clear top coat. This was to try and smoosh the colours together to make a solid peelable decal.
Then when the polish is dry it peels off the mat, or cling film, and you can cut the decal to size. Apply this to the nails onto wet polish. Cleaning up the edges with remover or an emery board and then finish with top coat!
What do you think of the finished effect?
